What exactly is a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV)? What does it mean to have a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) on the road?

The Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) is a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) designed to have a maximum speed of 25mph (40kph) and a maximum loaded weight of 3,000 lbs (1361kg). Unlike other electric vehicles, NEVs are classified as street-legal by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) and fall under the Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) classification. This means that NEVs can be legally driven on most public roads, as long as the posted speed limits are 35mph (56kph) or, in some states, 45mph (72kph).

The CRU not only satisfies the safety requirements mandated by the US Federal safety standards (FMVSS 500) but also completely adheres to the highly rigorous automotive SAE J2358 standard, which includes the Seat Belt Anchorage requirements and the Occupant Protective Structure for roll-over protection.

CRU utilizes an onboard charger that can be conveniently powered using a supplied AC cord from Club Car. This cord can be easily plugged into any standard 110V to 120V electrical outlet, eliminating the need for a dedicated car charging station or outlet. The charging time may vary between 6 to 14 hours, depending on the level of depletion in the battery. Once fully charged, CRU offers an average range of 15-20 miles, with factors such as terrain and payload significantly influencing its performance.
